Raveesh Kumar, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said in a press briefing on Wednesday afternoon that Pakistan tried to target our military installations after India launched an airstrike on a major terror camp of the Jaish-e-Mohammad.

“The Pakistan Air Force was detected and the Indian Air Force responded instantly. In that aerial engagement, one Pakistan Air Force fighter aircraft was shot down by a MiG 21 Bison of the Indian Air Force. The Pakistani aircraft was seen by ground forces falling from the sky on the Pakistan side. In this engagement, we have unfortunately lost one MiG 21. The pilot is missing in action. Pakistan has claimed that he is in their custody. We are ascertaining the facts,” he said.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan also held a press conference a few hours after the Indian MEA’s media briefing. He told the media, “If we let the conflict between the two nations escalate from this point, we ’t know where it would go. It would neither remain in my control nor in Narendra Modi’s.”
