China box office update: Despite a positive word of mouth, 102 Not Out sees a dull opening weekend

Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor reunited on the big screen earlier this year after a gap of 27 years in Umesh Shukla’s heartwarming . The film was well received by critics and audience to fell in love with the innocence of the lead characters.

Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor were hailed for their performance and the film struck a chord with the audience. By the end of its lifetime domestic run, 102 Not Out had hit a half-century at the box office earning Rs 52.04 crore.

At the worldwide box office, 102 Not Out had made more Rs 80 crore. Last weekend, it released on China and took a slow start by making $1.13 million but the word mouth of the film was positive and it was expected that the movie might go the Hichki way which too had taken a slow start at the box office in China, a couple of months back but went on to do more than $15 million.

But, 102 Not Out couldn’t do much over the weekend. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted about the Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor starter’s opening weekend box office. He wrote, “#102NotOut has a dull opening weekend in #China… Saw limited growth on Sat, but declined on Sun… Positive word of mouth hasn’t translated into BO numbers… Fri $ 1.13 mn Sat $ 1.20 mn Sun $ 810,000 Total: $ 3.23 mn [₹ 22.61 cr] Note: Includes previews held earlier.”
